Disney fans, rejoice – 2019 is looking to be a renaissance year of classics. Come 29 April, the live-action Dumbo film will be released. It’s been a long time, 78 years in fact, since the original animated film was first released in 1941.

It’s a classic part of the Disney canon that’s been virtually untouched since its release. Which might make its release now a happy reminder of the simple joy of storytelling on the big screen. This outing, directed by Tim Burton, and starring a host of names, most notably Eva Green, Colin Farrell and Michael Keaton, will be a contemporary reimagining of the tale.

Spanish leather goods house Loewe have also (coincidentally) come up with a limited edition Dumbo capsule collection. The timing is uncanny.

But it’s a charming fit that combines the whimsy and nostalgia of the beloved character with the understated quality of Loewe’s leather crafts. On the Goya backpack and T pouch, for instance, leather marquetry and printing techniques are combined to produce the cartoon images of Dumbo on grained calfskin in a Dumbo-grey shade.

There will also be a selection of ready-to-wear, but the leather goods will undoubtedly be the hotcake favourites.
